Dear Annie, I had finished the stars and cards block just as directed, but after I had removed the paper from the back the whole block measured only 11.5″ x 11.5″!!! What have I done wrong? Is there something about the grain of the material that might have influenced the eventual “settling in” of the material which caused it to shrink? Could I have ironed the block before I undid the paper piecing at the back in order to set the material? I have used 100% cotton material so I am really puzzled. Thank you, Anna-maria Flanegan.
Anne Marie-
I think maybe the pattern was printed at a smaller size that the original. When printing, you need to make sure that SCALING is turned off, or the printer scales the print to a smaller size. the pattern PDF is the exact size it needs to be, and with paper-piecing the only thing that could have made it smaller is the printed pattern. I’m sorry that that happened to you!

Hi Annie
So sorry to see the class end! We not only had a great instructor but I feel we have found a new good friend too! Thank you so much for sharing your talents and fun stories. See you in Paducah!

I cut all my <1/4 inch slit in each of the rays before I removed the paper so I ensured I did not go past the seam allowance. I am not experienced enough to be confident in my own estimate of a 1/4". Just a thought.
Hi Patrice —
I just saw this — I’m so sorry the late reply! Did the 1/4″ work out for you? Let me know if you need help. It will be quicker if you text me. My number is on the business card I gave you. Are you still working on your quilt?
