Comments About The Quilter’s Palette Class

Check out the comments attached to this posting. These are heartfelt remarks made by the inaugural class students about the Quilter’s Palette online class.

These quilters worked long and hard and I really had a great time getting to know them and hope they will return to another Quilting Stash class soon!

I am truly enjoying the class. It is very hard for me to attend quilting classes at my quilt shop due to my work schedule. An on-line class is the perfect solution. The videos are great and make the techniques easy to learn. The ability to ask questions on the chat is great. I have made quilts before but I am learning new techniques and tips that are so useful. I love the selection of blocks and can’t wait to see my quilt completed. Looking forward to the next class! Kathy

Wow, I wasn’t sure how I would find doing these blocks and constructing a quilt online. The videos and the online chats are extremely helpful. It’s great to see the work of others online and see how we are all progressing.

I’m enjoying the experience but, do know that if you fall behind it’s a lot of work to get caught up. But then again, I am juggling multiple projects like other students too.

The videos are really good and I’m glad they’re available a little longer to review. Excellent support from Annie too.

I would have to agree with the two previous comments – this class has been an absolute boon to any of us who can’t access classes easily, don’t want to spend a lot of time getting to class, or just prefer to work on our own schedule! It’s great that we can watch, rewatch and rewatch again Annie’s videos and the video chats are a lovely way to see Annie and to feel connected with the rest of the classmates. The technological support has been great, I’m enjoying the Student Gallery and of course, the quilt itself is a ton of fun and is very pretty! Annie provides tons of tips and tricks with each lesson, learning them all is truly invaluable. I can’t wait for more classes and would highly recommend that people join in on the fun! Annie’s been great with private email support, as well.

I can’t believe the time has passed so quickly. I have enjoyed the class, and love the video approach. Prior to this, my online experiences have consisted of pdf files of instructions (with great illustrations) and online fora (forums) where we can “chat” with the instructor. For this class, in addition to saving and printing the pdf files provided, I’ve been taking copious notes for my binder/journal, to “connect the dots” as it were between the lessons, and the practical work. I have quilted for several years, but am always up for new techniques and particularly wanted to work on the use of templates, as it is a weak point for me!

I am sorry I’ve missed the chats; I have had prior commitments on Sunday evenings. I will try for this week, but cannot promise!

Thanks for great sessions so far. I can’t even imagine the work that had to go into preparing them in advance, knowing you weren’t even going to home for some of the time the class is running. :-)

I really enjoy the video demonstrations – very pedagogic and clear, and I like that I can watch them over and over if I don’t get all the details. The chat is also nice – gives me an opportunity to get to know some of the other students and Annie. The variation of the blocks is good too – not all are what I would typically give a try if they were not part of a course, but I might get new favourites on the way. I’m looking forward to getting even more new techniques for my quilting tool box. When I watch the demos, I think I learn all of it, but it isn’t until I make the blocks it actually falls into place, so I am glad I haven’t saved all practising until the last minute.

I have taken this class in person with Annie when I was pregnant (live class was great too)…needless to say I fell way behind. Almost 3 years later, I’m ready to finish my quilt. With the videos I’m able to complete the half finished blocks and will be able to construct the blocks that I haven’t even started. I will take pictures once I’m finished sewing the Dresden Block tomorrow. I have not had a chance to participate in the chat on Sunday’s but hope to very soon. Thank you Annie for such dedication.

Love the way each week’s lesson is broken into separate videos. We can watch them all to get an overview for that week and then go back to concentrate on one, do the ‘work’, then come back to look at the next (or review the first to get a better understanding) The Sunday chat is really valuable to learn the extra tips you give and to hear the questions from others that lead to even more tips and ideas. Really, really like the gallery that gives us the time to see what others did and how the colors combine. Online is so much more relaxing than a live class – especially in our jammies! I agree with a previous comment – some blocks did not appeal to me, but I got so engrossed in learning the techniques that I actually stood back and said – well I think I like this one after all – even with my mistakes. And Annie your caring attitude really comes through – this is not a class where – ‘oh well time is up – stop on by if you have trouble finishing on your own’. You really want us to show you our work and ask our questions – that really makes me want to do my homework every week and not lose interest. I too hope to take more online classes.

I am really enjoying this online quilt. I have a few years quilting experience, however, I always like to try new techniques. I haven’t taken any pictures yet but plan to. Thanks to Annie for the great videos and wonderful explanations.

I have been sewing for years, but never did much applique, so this was a great opportunity to learn from a master. And I’m not dissappointed. It’s so much fun. I have met new tools and new materials. A challenge for me, too, is to work in inches. But it’s easy. Just get a ruler with inches and the quarter inch foot. The chats are very useful. We in Europe get to know each other and I learn about their favorite shops. The videos are very instructive and easy to follow. The last thing, I want to mention, is that you work in your own sewing room. That’s just great. 5 stars from me.

This class has been absolutely wonderful. It is so convenient to do everything at home where I have all my supplies, but still be able to chat with Annie and classmates in case I have questions. The blocks are fun to make and I am learning so many new techniques. I am finding that some techniques that I have avoided are actually quite fun and easy to do. I also play the videos over and over while I sew. Annie’s voice is very soothing and these hold me over between podcasts. Thanks Annie for all that you do!!!

I am so glad I took this class. My schedule doesn’t allow for me to take many classes at a quilt shop and this allows me to go at my own pace week to week :) I am enjoying doing the blocks and am learning some new things too! I really like hearing about the notions and am liking how they can save me time in my quilting :) LIke the fork pins and the self threading needles! I’m also really enjoying the chats. It is neat to hear how everyone is doing and tips they might be sharing. Annie and Guy are super as I think this class is really well thought out and orchestrated! Thanks for all you doing and for having this great class!

I’m really enjoying this class. The lessons with videos, chats and Annie’s quick responses to my emails have all helped. June has been a very full month and I’ve been gone part of every week, so I really appreciate the lessons being left online a bit longer. I’m managing to keep up despite the fact that I’m doing so many other things including another class locally. I like this format and have learned a lot of techniques that are new to me. I’m going to be watching for more classes from Annie in the future. It’s been well worth my time.

  • staciepitz@yahoo.com

Love learning the new techniques. Also love the tips and special notions I haven’t used before. I really like your idea of documenting everything for posterity. Plus, this class gives me many more reasons to buy more quilt-related things! Three cheers for Annie.

I love this class. I am already behind (!) with all the other things that we all have going on. Which is why the online format is so good. I can work on my block(s) at 5:30 am or after the kids are in bed at night (do you see a theme here?!). I had never made a dresden plate block before, but faithfully followed Annies instructions, & I am very happy with the result. Actually, I don’t think I have ever made any of the blocks we will be doing. My previous quilts have been more applique or machine embroidery. So thankyou Annie & Guy for this class – I am learning so many new techniques.
BTW, my first use of fork pins was for the Maple Leaf block, & the pins are now working overtime on all my other projects too. I wish I had found them (& knew how to use them!) ages ago.

I am having fun doing this class and learning a lot of new things. The videos are very clear and detailed. Are you going to tell us about the bright batik top on the set? I’m going to try the Tucker Trimmer ruler for trimming the butterfly parts. This class shows us ways to do difficult looking blocks in a step at a time so it doesn’t seem hard.

  • Linda Axford

A great class! I look forward to more. Can’t believe how much I’ve learned. Very challenging and rewarding – with a great product to show at the end. Thanks, Annie!

  • Pat Leask

I’ve finally done it – signed up for the “2nd Quilter’s palette” class – as have been wanting to do this quilt and couldn’t the 1st time it was offered – am so excited, and nervous about the fabric selection – but Annie, after watching the “free” lesson all about fabric selection ,I feel much better – unless you want to fly to Canada to help me – lol!! Am preparng a binder as we speak for my quilt journal and then will start my fabric planning – can’t wait – see you in “online class” – Pat L.

  • annie

Pat – You are such a dear! I would love to fly to Canada and help you! I’m glad that you got the information that you needed for your fabric selection, though ; )

I’m glad that you finally got your charm too !!

  • lorrus223@comcast.net

I’m so glad you sent me an email with the classes you’re offering. I took one look at the first lesson and signed up. I am a confident beginner. Have two finished quilts under my belt, with three (four now) in the works. I’m a flight attendent so regular classes that last weeks are nearly impossible for me, so this is wonderful. I’m also thinking about taking the 101 class. I have alot of 30’s that I would like to use. How many people are in this class? It was very interesting looking at the pictures from the first class. Will be sending pictures of material selection, dresden and myself shortly. Will we have a gallery for this class or will it be put in with the first class? Can’t wait to meet everyone. Annie, I have listened to your podcasts for quite awhile and love them, but I have to tell you from what I’ve seen so far I think you’re a great teacher. One of the really nice things about this form of teaching is being able to go back and play them again. In a live class once it’s done, it’s done. I’m hoping to be in on 2nd live chat, never done that.
    Happy Sewing
    LorRae
